LM25118 Inductor Selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM25118

I'm evaluating LM25118 for a buck-boost design with current ranging from 0.2A to 3.05A. The inductor selection in Workbench always return a 10uH inductor. However Equation 10 and 11 from datasheet results in an inductor of 75uH/42uH minimum. Also if I use a lower inductor the power supply will not operate in CCM and this behaviour is not explained in datasheet. Can I really use LM25118 for this design?

Vin: 6.54 to 32V

Vout: 12V

Iout: 0.2 to 3,05A

Ana

  • Hi Ana

Please try WEBENCH again. It does not show 10uH always. The inductance value changes by changing the requirements.

The differences between your calculation and WEBENCH results are mostly caused because you use smaller Iripple than WEBENCH's (or WEBENCH use bigger Iripple than yours)
