Digitally Controlled Regulators

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2576, LMR14203

Hello,

We have designed a new product (Engine Simulator) that is controlled by PC software over a USB connection to a ATmel micro. The product we made in the past had mechanical potentiometers and switches. You can see the old product here. http://www.autosim.com.au/autosim_012.htm

The new version needs to be able to control two voltage regulators. These are the LM2576 and LMR14203. To adjust these, we tried using a digital potentiometer. This was the AD5254BRU1.

We find that the digital potentiometer got very hot and failed. It looks like digital potentiometer cannot be used for this application. I am looking for a solution to vary the LM2576 and LMR14203 with a micro-controller. Can you help with this.I am also open to recommendations to use any other components.

The LM2576 must have an adjustable range of +7 to 18 volts. The LMR14203, +1.25 to +12 volts. In coming voltage is +19 volts.

Ray.
