PMIC DC/DC output not used

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65217

Hello,

If I want to use a PMIC but I don't need all the buck DC/DC output, can I let these output not connected ? What happens if the DC/DC start with output not connected (no self and capacitor on the output, and no feedback) ? Is it a problem for the operation of the other DC/DC and for the whole operation of the PMIC ?

For example, if I take the TPS65217 but I don't need the DCDC3 ? Can I let it left unconnected ? (for external components saving)

Best regards,

thierry

  • Hi Thierry,

Many PMICs have enable pins or registers in I2C to enable and disable individual converters. Typically, there is no problem not using a DCDC converter on a PMIC as long as you disable the converter and follow the recommended connections for an unused converter specified for the particular PMIC you choose to use. The recommended connections for a unused converter or any other unused pins are typically provided in the datasheet, application report, or here on the E2E forums.
