reverse current protection on TPS22963C

“In our application, in one case, this device will not have power (VIN=0) and enable will low.

But there will be 5V present at the output. Will reverse current protection work in this mode?

Will this device be damaged if 5V is present at output without input voltage?”

  • Hello Matt,

You have interpreted the Reverse Current feature of the TPS22963 correctly.

Looking at Pg 14 & 15 of the datasheet in the event that voltage is present on the output and there is none on the input no current will flow because of the reverse current protection. Looking at the voltage vs. time plot of page 15. When the output is disabled the revers current protection is engaged which even in the presence of the voltage on the output seen on the right on the graph there is no voltage being transferred to the input and the device is undamaged.
