bq24725A - availability

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24725A, BQ24725, BQ24735

Hello,

We are looking for a SMBus controlled "smart charger" (ref SLUA533 and SLUA608) in an Application where the fuel gauge should control the charger without a host controller.

We have looked at the bq24725A spec and think that this could be a good alternative to use. But when ordering a bq24725 EVM from one of TI's distributors we have the info that the bq24725AEVM is classified as obsolete.

Does TI have an alternative to suggest or will the bq24725A be available in the future? We do not want to start implementing a component if there are plans to stop producing it.

Anybody from Ti that can advice. We need to take a decision therfore a response would be very much appreciated.

Best regards

Kjell

  • Kjell,

The bq24725A is and exact equivalent to the bq24725.  The bq24725A is recommended for all new designs.  If you already have the bq24725 EVM in hand, you can use that to start evaluation.

We recommend the bq24735 EVM to evaluate the bq24725A.  The bq24735 is pin-to-pin and software compatible with the 725A, but also offers a turbo boost feature. Please consult the datasheet and  EVM users guide for more details.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Rachel,

Thank you very much for your support. Your e-mail answered my question. The important thing is that the bq24725A is not an obsolete component.

Thanks by the way for answering my question that quick.

    Best regards

    Kjell
