TLC5928 PWD controlled

Hi,

I plan to control a group of LED (6pcs) with the 5928, but the brightness of the LED`s should adjustable.

My idea is to connect the BLANK pin from the 5928 with a PWD output from a microcontroller to change the brightness. If ist possible?

What happens if I would like to change the number of lighting LED during the operation?

(eg. LED 1-6 should lighting and next step only LED1-4 and LED6)

Thanks for your help!

Peter

  • Hello Peter,

I want to understand your application.

Are you not planning on using the serial constanct current control inherent to the device? By sending this device serial values according to the communication diagram on Pg. 10 of the datasheet you can independently control the brightness of each channel independent of one another which would include toddling one LED at a time like you talk about at the end of you post.

If you use the BLANK pin you will need to load new register values anyway so if you want to change the brightness you could use the blank pin to make sure that all of the registers are cleared for the new brightness value but the new brightness value will have to be programmed serial regardless of how your control the BLANK pin.

Let me know if you have any questions.
