BQ25505

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25505

Hey,

I just ordered the BQ25505 eval board. However when I chose my solar panel, I got one with OCV of 4.5v, which is more than the max 4v rating. Do I need to ensure that this voltage is never bigger than 4 or it could work as is?

  • The latest bq25505 datasheet shows the expanded input voltage range up to 5.1V.  The solar panel's MPP is about 80% of OCV or 3.6V.  So, as long as you set VBAT_OV > 3.6V, the boost charger should work for you.

  • Hello,

    I had another small question:

Is there a simple way to adjust the MPPT voltage point with the BQ25505EVM-218 evaluation board, or I would need to unsolder/resolder new resistors according to the excel sheet?

  • The EVM allows you use to use a jumper to set the VOC_SAMP pin high or low for MPP levels of 80% or 50% of VOC. respectively.

Or you can use another jumper to tie VOC_SAMP to the on-board resistors that set the MPP level to 75% of VOC.

You need to solder new resistors if none of those options work for you.
