Battery charger “BQ24103ARHLT stops working

Hi,

I am using battery charger  “BQ24103ARHLT” in one of my design. I’m using 2 cell Li-ion battery pack with nominal voltage of 7.4V with NTC. Supply input to the battery charger is 9V derived from “VSK-S5-9UA(CUI inc)” which is AC/DC converter with 9V as output voltage. The problem which I am facing is battery charger IC goes bad after few days. It happened in two boards and then I replaced IC. I am trying to find out the root cause for IC going bad. And more point is when I don’t connect NTC of battery to TS pin of IC, battery stops charging. Is it expected behavior? I have attached my schematic design. Need your help to find out root cause for IC going bad.

  • I do not see anything wrong with your schematic.

If the thermistor is removed, the TS pin will go outside the operation range and stop charging.

From your input I can say what is going wrong.  It is best to order an EVM and evalue the eVM to check against your circuit.

You can attache wavefroms of each pin of the IC during operation and I can see if I see something.

Look at the Ug and compare your layout to the EVM.
