I think the 50kHz is a recommend minimum switching frequency that is selected based on the tradeoffs between efficiency (better at low frequency) and solution size/cost (smaller at high frequency). Just like the maximum switching frequency can be programed to 5MHz. However frequency higher than 1MHz may be difficult to obtain due to gate driver limitation, high input voltage ad thermal considerations.
You may refer to the LM3409 data sheet to calculate the toff and switching frequency base on customer’s application.
