Power supply AC/DC Flyback PSR CV: Output 36V, 0.5A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28722, UCC28710, PMP9041, UCC28720, UCC28700

Hi!

I need to design a AC/DC power supply with a flyback, PSR topology.

I want to have a Constant Voltage output of 36V and 0.5A maximum current.

What would be the most appropriate IC from TI? I am looking for a cheap solution in a small size.

Can I use UCC28722? I can only see designs for 5V, 1A for chargers or USB.

Thanks!

  • The UCC2872x family are designed to a drive bipolar Flyback switch, so the resulting design will be low cost. However, the power level of 18 W is probably too high to get good efficiency with the bipolar device.

The UCC2871x family are designed to drive power MOSFETs, so they can handle higher power levels. Depending on you requirements, the UCC28710 may be more suitable:

On the product folder for this part, a number of refercne dsigns are listed, including PMP9041, a 24 V output at 1.7 A. This may be a good starting point for your design:

The UCC28710 datsheet illustrates the design process step-by-step. There is an Excel design calculator on the UCC28720 or UCC28700 product folders that can be used also with the UCC28710.

I hope this helps you to get startd.

    Thanks,

    Bernard.
