Bq34z100 Interfacing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100

Hello,

I am currently using a Li-ion battery with 11.1V  and 26.4 Ah.  I was looking to use the BQ34Z100 chip in the "Multi-Cell and 5-LED Display" configuration.  However, I really only want to utilize the chip to detail how much battery capacity is left through the attached LEDs.  Do I need use the HDQ communication line or the SCL and SDA lines?  Is there another chip with more simple applications?

 Thanks,

Nandheesh

  • Nandheesh,

The device can support SOC reporting with 5 LEDs, but you will need to use the shift register expander option shown in the datasheet. The device can also support a 4 LEDs without the expander. You can use either the I2C or the HDQ interface with the 5 LED option and only the HDQ interface is available when using the 4 LED option.
