BQ24195 - Where to connect VCC for application circuit? (PMID or SYS)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24195

Hey there,

I've studied the datasheet and eval board schematic but I'm still nto sure where I should connect my application circuit's VCC line. I am making a battery-powered consumer product using a single LiPo cell. Using the BQ24195 I want to charge the battery when it's dead via USB, then boost the battery output to 4.2 - 5.0v as a constant power supply when the application circuit is activated .

PMID seems to be the output point when used as a power bank, so I think this is where I should connect the VCC of my application. But SYS is considered the "system" voltage rail.

Which do I use?

  • The output of the boost function is the PMID pin and will be a 5V source.

The output of the system with just a battery connected is the battery voltage minus any IR drop from the battery across the BAT FET.  If you connect to the system, the output range would basically be between 3V and 4.2V
