TPS65023 (Power management IC) Frequent Failure

How are you powering the VIN of the TPS65023? Can you share the schematic? Make sure there is no grounding issues that could cause over voltage on any of the pins.

We are using power management IC TPS65023RSBT in our design to energies DSP(TMS320C6745) , Codec(TLV320AIC3106IRGZ ) and other glue logic ICs.

This IC(TPS65023RSBT ) is going bad frequently. mostly it shows VCC and GND short. or some time one LDO not function properly. If we replace the IC then every thing will be fine. This design we are taken from EVM schematic of OMAPL137 from Spectrum and circuit is mostly same as EVM. Except we have other additional circuit.

In our board there are other analog ic and some ics operate on -15V and 15V.Vin is given directly , 10UF tantalum coupling capacitor is connected betweeen VCC line and ground.

Hi, 

Measure the VIN and VCC pins on a good board to verify that the voltages are the same. Long narrow traces on the VIN pins can cause a larger parasitic resistance on he input path. This could result in IR drops to VINs making the voltages on the VINs and VCC different, where they must be the same. 

It is not recommend to use just tantalum caps on the input and outputs of the DCDCs. Please change this caps to ceramics or place ceramics in parallel with the tantalums. 

Can you characterize the VIN turn on / ramp up? What is supplying the 5V? If there is a "hot plug" event with 5V there can be temporary VIN spikes as much as 2 x VIN or in this case 10V. 

Is there any overvoltage incidents on the VIN from the supply? This device has 7V for its absolute max on VCC and VINs. 

Is there any back biasing on the LDO outputs? 

If any overvoltage  incidents  are occuring how to take care for that ??

Have you tried replacing the tantalum caps with ceramics? Tantalum caps can cause the converters not to regulate properly or overshoot.
