LP5523 RGBW functionality

Hello,

I was wondering if LP5523 can have RGBW functionality (not only RGB). I looked through the datasheets, but I couldnt find any application notes on this topic. Could you please refer me to some reference design on RGBW using RGB driver?

Hi Natallia,

Yes you can use white LEDs with LP5523 or the combination of RGB and W. There has been the idea that you could drive three RGB LEDs with LP5523 (with the 9 LED outputs), but nothing is limiting its use for mixing white LEDs and RGB LEDs.

There is also a device that has 4 LED outputs for RGBW. You can check the LP5562.

Hi Natallia,

Not that I know of the is not any application notes on RGB vs RGBW drivers. Now here I am speaking of the LP5523 type family of products. So similar to it there are LP5521, LP5562, LP55231, LP8501. These ones you can use with RGB LEDs as well as with the White LEDs.

One thing you need to note though is that for the LP5523 the LED outputs D7, D8, and D9 are driven from battery (VDD) and not from chargepump. So if you use these outputs for higher Vf LEDs, you need to note tthat the VDD is high enough.
