bq20z45-R1 OCA Not Setting when RSOCL = 1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z45-R1, BQ20Z655-R1, BQ20Z65-R1

Hi

I am having a problem getting the OCA to set on a BQ20z45-R1 based battery when RSOCL = 1.  It seems that because the RM and RSOC are limited to 99% until a valid charge termination occurs that the over charged condition is not being detected.

I have attached two log files, one with RSOCL set and one with it cleared.

Over Charge Capacity is set to 50mAh.

I can send the dataflash settings separately if required (they are confidential).

Is it possible to get an OCA when RSOCL is set?

Many thanks

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

for OCA to occure the internally counted Remaining Capacity must exceed the Full Charge Capacity by the Over Charge Capacity amount , but since setting RSOC =1 holds the remaining capacity to a max of 99% of the full charge capacity until this primary charge termination then clearly cannot happen.

  • Hi Mike

Thanks for your answer.  I think this needs including in the technical reference manual for the BQ20Z45-R1 since there is no link between OC, OCA and RSOCL.

Does the BQ20Z65-R1 and BQ20Z655-R1 operate in the same way?

    Many thanks
