To change output current in SM3320_BATT_EVM/NOPB Board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SM72442

Hi,

I have purchased SM3320_BATT_EVM/NOPB  Evaluation Board. The maximum Output Current for this board is 9A.

But i need max output current as 11A for my application. I have read in application note that changing voltage on A4 pin will change the current. But I need the clear explanation.

My question:  What are all the things i have to do to get Output current as 11A..

Thanks in advance.

  • The current limit is set by the resistor divider R30 and R40 connected to the A4 input (pin 18) of U8 (SM72442).  You match that with the current sense amplifier of U11a and resistor divider R111 and R112.  There are no details or equations in either the Application Report or the SM72442 datasheet.  I'll see if I can direct this to someone responsible for that device.

Or you could experiment with the components I mentioned.  The current limit is reached when the voltage at U8-21 equals U8-18. U8-18 (A4) sets the limit and U8-21 (AIOUT) is the current feedback. I think it is safe to say that raising the voltage at U8-18 will increase the limit.  Or you could change the resistor divider R111 and R112.

  • Hi John,

I have one more doubt. Can you please explain me the MPPT operation i.e. Perturb and Observe Algorithm in SM3320_BATT-EVM/NOPB.

I have tested the unit and calculated power. But i cant able to understand in what basis SM72442 is tracking the MPPT.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I don't directly support those parts.  I have glanced at the datasheet, but I can't help you with any details.  Let me see if I can track down the appropriate support person.

  • H John,

What is the use of PIC_RB4 bit in SM3320_BATT/NOPB Schematic.

D102 is DNP in the board. If we place D102  in board, what is the use of D102 diode. PIC_RB4 is at the anode  side of D102.

            Thanks in advance.
