Connecting two PTH08080WAH in parallel.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54620

Hello, I would like to connect two of the PTH08080WAH DC/DC converters together in order to increase the current output, while maintaining the input voltage range. I looked for other DC/DC that could provide 5V(@4A or more) with an input of 4-18V approximately, but was not able to find one. I noticed that the PTH08080WAH does not have a sync pin to synchronize multiple DC/DC converters. Do you have any recommendations for doing this?

Thanks,

Felipe Ocampo

  • There are quite a few buck converts that can provide >4 A.  For your application of 5 V output, you may need to look closer at the datasheet.  PTH08080WAH is a buck converter.  For 5 V output, the minimum input voltage is Vout + 1.1 V or 6.1 V.  If you need to generate 5 V from the full range of 4 to 18 V, you will need to look at a buck-boost converter.  Please post your detailed requirements.

  • John, Thank you for your response. This DC-DC is meant to be used for 2-cell to 4-cell LiPo batteries, so a range of about 6V to 17V is what we would need. I think a buck converter should be good enough. Do you have one that you can recommend for my application?

    Thank you,

    Felipe

  • TPS54620 comes immediately to mind.  See if that looks like it will fill your needs.  You can use power quick search to look for other options:
