For the Enabled Protections C data FLASH, the bq40z50 data sheet shows bits 5 and 3 as RSVD, while the Battery Management Studio software shows them as CTOS and PTOS.

Which is correct, and if they are not RSVD, what do CTOS and PTOS mean?

The CTOS and PTOS flags show alert status and do not disable charging. They are not disabled in the Enabled Protection C register. You can disable the CTO and PTO protection features in the the register. You can use the protection feature with a dumb charger. The gauge will disable the CHG FET, if a fault occurs.
