IC with PowerPath and cell balancing for two LiPo in series to provide 8.8vreg out?

Essentially I am trying to do this -- http://learn.adafruit.com/multi-cell-lipo-charging/fast-multi-cell-charger -- without the switches.

So can two PowerPath devices be wired together to give the combined voltage, and be able to balance charge 2 different cells?

Two bq24230 in series will not work reliably.  I suggest moving to a 2-cell charger and adding a cell balancing IC.

Would a combination of bq29200 and bq24123 accomplish what I am looking to do? 

Since the bq24123 isn't a PowerPath device, would I need to disconnect the cells from the rest of the device while charging?

Or is there a better pairing?

This is what I put together quickly in KiCad (the components are rather large) based on the 2 datasheets.

I'd also like to put a Fuel Gauge on this as well.

Does my schematics look ok?

Could I use bq24123 bq29200 together, as shown in my schematic?

Did this work out for you? I'm also looking for a solution to balance 2 cells while utilising power path/load sharing. Everything I come across is for one cell. I know conventional wisdom is that you should disconnect the batteries from load when balance charging but there are plenty of laptops and other portable electronics that somehow pull this off whilst using multiple cells.
