How to switch of bq24195 PMID o/p when using battery?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24195

Hi

With EVM, there have I/O pin & H/W option selecte for OTG control.

Shall we switch off PMID output via I2C(SW) with battery only(non charging mode)?

Please share your comment to me. THx

  • Hello Lewis,

Which BQ device are you using?

  • O! Sorry missing

    bq24195

  • Hello Lewis,

I am not sure if I understand your question from your post so let me know if the information below answers your questions.

Are you wanting to know if there is a hardware shutoff for the PMID boost voltage or are you asking what is the best way of enabling and disabling the PMID boost?

The 4 criteria must be met to enable the boost on PMID. OTG must be high so pulling this pin low would disable the PMID boost and the I2C registers must be set to enable the boost feature to PMID.

  • Thanks Ryan

The default setting is not max. limit of chip.
So we need another CPU to config it.

My question is: shall we control the PMID boostor output by CPU?
Or there are necessary extra switch(MOSFET) to break the connection between external device & bq24195.
  • Hello Lewis,

You will need to control the OTG pin and the and an internal register:
The boost mode is activated when the REG01[5:4] = 10 and OTG pin is High.

There is a connection between the Battery and the PMID via Q2 and Q4. However together I believe that when boost mode is deactivated and the device is not charging the voltage on PMID should be zero. I will double check on this to be sure.
