autonomous power source selection transition time

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24070, BQ24170

Hi,

Im looking for a power management ic to charge single li-ion battery with seperate power path and also to power gsm module(sim908 3.0V-4.8V) using a 12V car battery. As the module consumes around 2A current as voltage spikes, it is required the regulator support 2A. We have selected BQ24070 as a low cost solution. I need to know the transition delay of DPPM(Dynamic power path management) and autonomous power source selection, because the module consumes power as spikes. Or do you recommend any other low cost power management IC for this application. if possible Switching mode one would be better.

Thanks.

  • Hello Aruna,

At the load current and voltages that you are dealing with I would recommend looking at a switch mode solution to save you from the power and heat dissipation headaches.

You could look at the BQ2417x family which is a higher current switch mode solution with Power Path.

The load transient abilities of these parts are shown primarily in Fig. 12 on Pg. 15 of the datasheet for the BQ24170.
