bq24292i output capacitance: upper limit

Hello!

As per bq24292' data sheet (p.34) for the good loop stability the output capacitor of the charger should range in ~18...51uF with recommended 2.2uH inductor.

But I would like to supply with bq24292' SYS power a number of secondary converters, each one requiring a good deal of input capacitance with total amount up to ~200uF.

Is there a way to make it possible without sacrificing loop stability?

Thank you.

  • Typically this is OK if the capacitance is distributed around the system since there is impedance between the output of the charger and the capacitance across the board.

The best way to verify this is to do a load transient step and see if you get any oscillations and how fast they damp out.

If any oscillations damp out after two or three cycles to less than 20% then you are fine.
