Back Drive Protection for HDMI Source - TPS22910A

Hi,

 

I've some questions regarding reverse current protection circuit in load switch.

I need to put a regulator circuit for HDMI source, +5V. Normally, I use an IC protection like TPS12S016 which has integrated back-drive protection where it protect a case where user plug the source device to another HDMI source device either it has power or not.

- Does the reverse current protection circuit in this load switch or in some serie of LDO like TPS709xx serie has similar feature to the back-drive protection circuit found in HDMI protection device mentioned?

- Can it protect the case where Vout is supply with voltage while there's no input voltage?

    For your first question, depending on how close you expect the 2 supply voltage to be, and how much reverse current you can tolerate before activating the protection, you may need to disable the load switch to activate the reverse current protection.   Will you be able to detect if the other device is sourcing power before enabling the switch?

    On the second question, the TPS22910A has an under voltage lockout feature which should protect against this case.

    Are there any other questions about this?  Do you think the TPS22910A will work for your application? 

    Also, we just received UL certification on the TPS22945 to make it more attractive for HDMI applications (currently working to update datasheet and package markings).  While it does not provide reverse current protection, it might be beneficial from a certification standpoint.
