bq76PL536EVM-3 External Power Supply

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL536EVM-3, BQ76PL536

Hello!

I am using bq76PL536EVM-3 board. Board is working with cells' power. Is it possiblle to supply with an external power? if it is,How can i do that?

  • Hello,

Are you trying to use the board to monitor an attached set of batteries or are you wanting to test the board independent of the batteries. The second case is addressed in the User Guide for the EVM, but if you want to the monitors the batteries while the devices are powered by an external bench source to eliminate the power power draw on the batteries during testing that is a different story.

The EVM itself has a BAT pin of the BQ76PL536's on the board tied to the highest cell attached to each device. While there is no schematic on the EVM user guide (but the schematic on Pg. 47 of the datasheet looks very promising for understanding the EVM configuration along with Pgs. 48, 49, and 50) I assume it is a connection similar to what is seen on Pg. 14 of the datasheet. Trying to power the device by a different source other than the batteries it is monitoring is not recommended since a number of pack level features use the BAT pins for measurements and safety features.

Is there some issue that you are seeing or are you just trying to isolate the current that the device draws from some other aspect of your system?
