5V USB VBUS converter recommendation?

Hello,

Could TI recommend a converter to power USB's 5V VBUS? Previously we have used TPS61222, however the output is not stable.

For example, the output voltage of TPS61222 oscillates between 4.36 and 5.00V, and this occurs intermittently. We are looking for a stable USB source, preferrably with two 5V outputs.

Is there any "classic", rugid, and carefree IC, with good user rating?

Hi Matt,

The best solution is to use WEBENCH designer (link below) to design your converter based on your operating conditions. After finding a good design with high enough phase margin for stability (no oscillations), you can order an EVM, modify it to your WEBENCH design, and test it in your system.

Be more specific, if the USB is only intended to support two Mass Storage Devices, each limited to 100mA current, could you recommend one reliable/stable solution?

We use TPS61222 before and suffered a lot of headaches for its problems.

Do you recommend TPS2500/2501/2505? Do these three usually come into problem or not? And how is TPS61256 and TPS61170? Could you compare the for the 2×100mA need?

Hi Matt,

TPS2500 would be the best solution. It provides ECO mode optimize efficiencies at low load and can support dual USB ports. I recommend ordering its EVM and evaluating it on your system.
