PMIC quiescent current at very light loads

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65023, TPS650250

What is the PMIC quiescent current if the power rail requirements are as such below.  In the case shown, the processor is in stand-by and is powered by USB.  No specific PMIC has been chosen, but we were looking at the TPS65023, TPS6507x and TPS650250 just to get an idea.

3.3 V Supply 0.4 mW 0.121 mA
1.8 V Supply 0.25 mW 0.139 mA
Core - Fixed 0.5 mW 0.5 mA
Core @ 0.85V 2 mW 2.353 mA
1.8 V Supply (mDDR) 1 mW 0.556 mA

  • I think you are really asking what the input current to the PMIC will be.  Quiescent current is only tested in non switching conditions.  For your question, you are operating the power supply with a light load.  You may be able to estimate the input current using the efficiency plots in the datasheets.  When you do your calculations, please remember that the equation for efficiency is

    Efficiency = Pout/Pin

    and the equation for power dissipatation is

    Pd= (1/efficiency - 1 )Pout
