UA78M33 with 5V

Hello,

I used UA78M33 accidentally with 5V input. Current consumption is maximum 350 mA.

I didn't notice that it requires 5.3 to 25 Volts Input. There are more than 200 pieces of boards now around the world.

What type of errors may occur?

  • Ersin,

Drop out is the concern. If the pass transistor and current sense resistor need more voltage to operate than the input to output voltage provides, then the output will fall until there is enough voltage.

If other words, VOUT might run lower than expected. Ripple rejection will also about 0dB. This will be more likely at cold temperature..
