No communication with EVM Gas gauge could be established (bq34z100EVM and EV2300)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100EVM, BQEVSW, BQ34Z100

Hi.

I have simply installed the bq34z100 evaluation SW ("bqEVSW") and the corresponding 32-bit driver for my windows 7 (and resterted my PC). Then I have connected my bq34z100 evaluation module ("bq34z100EVM") through my EV2300. The EV2300 is connected to the bq34z100EVM using I2C (the "mid" EV2300 contact).

Now, I simply want to check if I have installed the "bqEVSW" SW correctly and that the "bqEVSW" have connection to my bq34z100 evaluation module ("bq34z100EVM") through the EV2300. The EV2300 is connected to the bq34z100EVM using I2C (the "mid" EV2300 contact).

But when I launch the "bqEVSW", the following is shown first:

NOTE: It says "AutoDetect device: None" etc.
I then click "Confirm Selection", and the following pop-up appears:

Does this indicates some initial errors (in case what) ?

I hope someone can help me clarifying the situation.

  • This may seem like a silly question, but do you have a battery connected to the BAT+ and BAT- terminals? The 4-pin communication headers on the bq34z100EVM do not receive power from the EV2300.

Additionally, do any error messages show up before the "bqEVSW Supported Targets" auto-detection dialog pops up, like "The EV2300 connection could not be Initiated"?

  • In addition to Jason's comment, verify that the jumpers are installed and you should verify that REG25 is about 2.5V. Also, make sure that you select the "Run as Administrator" option when running the setup program on a WIN 7 machine.
