About BQ24160 Charge Termination dose not work at " Low temp ".

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24160

Hi

Now I have one question for BQ24160  Charge Termination at   "Low Temp "

This device has JEITA function , but   I found some one.

Question

Dose BQ24160  Charge Termination work (or Enable )  at  JEIT  Low Temp condition ??

 * JEITA Low Temp condition is  between  T1 ( 0℃) and  T2(10 ℃) .

Could you tell me about this Charge Termination at  JEITA Low Temp??

Regard

Jasper

  • Hello Jasper,

It is not a charge termination but charging is suspended.

This means that the when the thermistor indicates that the temperature is too low it stops charging and all of the charging related timers until the temperature of the thermistor is once again within the stated JEITA thresholds.

So when the temperature is below the COLD threshold the charger will not terminate since charging is suspended but it will also not charge for the same reason.

Let me know if that answers your question or if I missed something.

  • For JEITA cool ( 0C - 10C), charge current is reduced by 1/2 and termination is disabled.

  • Hi Jeff

Thank you very much about this answer.

    I understood about this spec.

Any way I have one question for this JEITA spec.

    [ Question ]

We understood about JEITA  Cool sepc.

       But  how about  WARM??

Because of we have some issues when  JEITA   WARM  Temperature.

This issues    Battery Charge did not  Stop  when JEITA  WARM T5 (60℃).

     *  Charge current dose not stop at WARM Temperature.

      Dose this spec  Correct ??

We want to know ,   Battery Charge stop at WARM (T5 60℃) is " Correct " or  " Not  Correct ?"

Could you tell us BQ24160 Correct spec for JEITA.

    Thanks and Regard

    Jasper

  • For JEITA warm (45C-60C), VBATREG is reduced by ~4% but charging continues until JEITA hot (60C).  What is the voltage on the TS pin?  Note that the EVM resistor dividers are NOT sized for a 10kohm thermistor.

  • Dear Jeff

Thank you very much quick response,

Yes,  now we doubted about TS Pin setting.

Any way we will check TS Pin voltage again.

    Thanks and Regard

  • Hi,

"For JEITA warm (45C-60C), VBATREG is reduced by ~4% but charging continues until JEITA hot (60C)."

Is termination disabled within JEITA warm(45C-60C) same as cool?

  • No.  Termination is not disabled for JEITA warm.
