TPS65920 HFCLK / 32kHz / 3MHz Clocking

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65920, OMAP3530

Hello!  I just want clarification on the TPS65920 TRM (SWCU052C), section 3.4.4 "3-MHz RC Oscillators."  That paragraph states:

"The device has three internal RC oscillators that free-run at roughly 3 MHz. These oscillators do not have external appearances and are used to clock internal switching regulators. If the external HFCLKIN signal is not present, the 32-kHz oscillator synchronizes with the RC oscillators, if they are operating. If the HFCLKIN signal is present, the 32-kHz oscillator must be synchronized with it, and the RC oscillators must be idled. Figure 3-11 shows the RC oscillators."

I was investigating the option of having the OMAP3530 generate the HFCLK signal with the TPS65920 generating the 32kHz clock.  Is the above paragraph stating that if the HFCLK is supplied by an external device (such as the OMAP3530) that it is the target system's responsibility to ensure the 32kHZ is synchronized to the HFCLK?  Or, from previous paragraphs in the TRM, that the 32kHz clock will be synchronized by the TPS65920 to the HFCLK when it is present?

Regards,

Charles

  • Hi Charles,

You dont need to configure anything to synchronize the clocks.

Is your question related to how to synchronise the clocks or you which clocks to use for the DCDC?

It is recommended that you do not use internal 3.2MHz oscillator.

    Gandhar.
