current control driver using pwm signal

hello there,

I am working on a project where i use microcontroller to generate pwm signal. The pwm signals are used to control the current passing through heater. i am confused in making the driver circuit for it. i want to control current ranges from 2 to 5 amp. which chip should i use??  it should take pwm signal as input and vary the magnitude of current according to duty cycle of pwm while output voltage remain constant.....

  • Hi Jay,

There are a variety of options you can go with here. Constant current PWM drivers are common for LED controllers, but I'm not sure you need that kind of solution.  Usually heaters are basically a large resistor so a constant current source is not necessary, you may be able to use just a FET.  What is the input voltage, and, what is the heater resistance?
