Bq27500 in multi-cell configuration, it's possible?

Hi,

I need a System-Side Impedance Track Fuel Gauge for my product. it uses a multi-cell 2S Li-ION. Charge makes with an external charger, so it's possible to use the bq27500 on my system with a multi-cell configuration and with an external charge?

i see a design on slua387 with a unity-gain operational amplifier used to buffer the output of a resistive voltage divider of two makes all voltages look like a single cell.

  • Hi Thomas,

The scheme in SLUA387 should work for you, but you might want to use a newer gauge like bq27510-G3 or bq27520-G4 in place of bq27500.  You still need to configure the gauge to match the characteristics of your particular cell (identify the best matched chemID and perform a learning cycle).

Alternatively, you could even apply the same scheme to one of the IT-Lite gauges like bq27421-G1 or bq27441-G1.  They require less configuration since the chemID is fixed.
