Suggestions for a inverted buck regulator.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5022

Hi,

i need to convert a nominal -48V ( -44 to -54VDC ) to +5V DC.   I need 3A.    Physical size and efficiency are both important.       The web bench tools don't let me do a design, so i'm wondering what i can do.

Any suggestions?

In this environment i have differential data that is referenced to gnd, so i can't simply swap the polarity around and use a normal buck.

  • Hello,

You might not find any buck regulators to do this job. I found an article that talks about creating a 5V output from -12Vin. Here is the link: http://powerelectronics.com/power-management/converting-negative-input-voltages-positive-output-voltages

If you are okay with your output moving about a little then this method of FB is alright. The article talks about appropriate layout so as to avoid that as well. To know more about the LM5022, you will have to ask questions in the Non Isolated DC-DC forum. I hope this gets you started.

    Regards,
