Bq24165

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24165

I want to use BQ24165 in my gsm modem application. I have some question regarding this ic.

1) What will be the output voltage if battery is not connected?

2) If input power is not present and system load is on battery, if battery voltage goes low will it cut off load automatically? If not then how to incorporate low battery cut off mechanism go get rid of battery deep discharge?

  • Regarding 1, the voltage will be 4.33 typical.

Regarding 2, the charger is expecting the battery to have a protector that opens to prevent deep discharge.  The charger has a BATUVLO comparator that will turn off the BATFET if V(BAT) drops to 2.5V typical.  The minimum value is not specified but is close to 2.0V.  The ILIM(dishcarge) feature also turns off the BATFET for a short time if the discharge current exceeds 7A typical.

  • Hello Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. I just want to know if input voltage (wall adapter or usb) not connected and battery voltage goes bellow 2.5V, will output load will be disconnected from battery? This will save battery from being deep discharge?

    Thanks

    Asish

  • No.  The bq24165 relies on the battery's internal protector to prevent over-discharge.
