BQ27520 firmware recover

In our device we are using the BQ27520 fuel gauge. When I've tried to update it with bq27520G4_3_29 firmware in GaugeStudio I got firmware update error and now the fuel gauge looks absolutely dead. There is no answers on I2C bus, and BAT_LOW signal always 0 despite of battery state. Are there any possibility to get this gauge working or we need to replace it?

Thank you in advance.

  • Oftentimes a botched firmware update will render the fuel gauge inoperable, requiring replacement. However, you might be in luck if the gauge is still in ROM (bootloader) mode.

You can try using bqCONFIG to perform a firmware update. If the gauge is still in ROM mode, bqCONFIG will inform you it has found a ROM mode device and will ask you if you want to perform an update or to run the program in Flash memory. By selecting the former option, you can re-upload the .senc file to the fuel gauge.

  • Thank you for your advising. It really was in ROM mode and I have successfully updated the firmware using bqConfig and now the gauge is working.
