TPS2560 Off leakage current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2560

Hi,

I'm looking for the Off-state leakage current through the TPS2560.

The datasheet does have a parameter "I IN_off" however that is a measurement of the supply current with the output open.

I'm interested in knowing the output leakage current (i.e. the current coming out the OUT pins) under the following conditions:

Vin = 3.3V

Vout = 0V (i.e. shorted to gnd)

Switch OFF.

The datasheet doesn't seem to say anything about that.  I would prefer to know the guaranteed value, but if that isn't available a typical value would be ok for my purposes.

  • If you need a worst case, you can use the IIN_off specification and assume zero internal bias current (ie, all input current flows to the output). This is un-realistic and the output current under this condition will be orders of magnitude less than the input current (independent of whether OUTx is grounded or left open).

  • Hi Eric,

    This is the part I don't understand: when OUTx is open the output current is (by definition) zero.  How can you say the output current is independent of whether OUTx is grounded or left open?

    The stated test conditions for IIN_off are with OUTx open.  IIN_off can't include the main FET drain-source leakage current.

    Is the datasheet correct?  Am I missing something?

    In any case, I think you implied that the typical leakage current will be less than a few uA, which is actually all I needed to know.

    Thanks,

    Allan

  • Hi Allan,

    You are correct that the current with OUTx shorted will be non-zero (like when OUTx is OPEN), but my main point was that the current at OUTx if grounded would be << than the  IIN_off condition current. I did find an EVM today and took a rough measurement using meters. With VIN=6.5V and the part in the disabled state, the input current was 0.2-0.3uA with OUT open and shorted to GND (OUT pin connection did not make a noticable difference). With OUT shorted (using another meter), the OUT current was ~0.1-0.2uA but these measurements are close to the resolution capibility of the meter.
