TPS63010 Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63010

On the TPS63010 data sheet the Typical Application Circuit schematic on page 1 show VINA, EN, PS and VSEL tied to VIN.  However, on page 19 the adjustable output voltage circuit shows these pins floating.  They are tied to together but they are not tied to VIN but to a capacitor C3, which then goes to ground.  The test circuit on page 16 also shows this arrangement.  Tying the pins to VIN makes sense to me; the other two circuits do not.  Should the other two circuits show a connection to VIN also and what is C3 for?

  • The typical application on page 1 shows the configuration using a minimum number of external components. The circuits on page 16 and page 19 show the configuration for best performance. If you check the block diagram on page 5 you can see that C3 is not floating in the configuration shown on page 16 and 19. It is connected to VIN with an internal resistor to build an RC filter for the supply of the internal analog control circuits through VINA. Having this resitor internal saves a resitor on the PCB if you want to do this filtering.

  • Thanks, I missed the 100 ohm resistor.
