Hi,
I am looking for a part suggestion for a simple USB powered single cell Li-Ion battery charger.
My design needs to be able to charge the battery with a maximum 500 mA when plugged into a non-charging USB port (PC port), but charge with up to 1A when plugged into a USB wall charger.
Since I want to limit the current drawn through a PC USB port, and not rely on the internal PTC fuses of the host, I assume I will need a USB switch of some sort to take care of the handshakes required to determine if the host is a charger or not. Something along the lines of the bq24392 perhaps?
I do not have a MCU on board so it will have to be self sufficient. Internal charging circuitry for the Li-ion would be nice to have to save some board space, but I can build that myself if required. Essentially im looking for an IC that will limit the current supplied to the battery charging circuit based off of the type of host USB port.
Thanks!
