FG Programming - bq27510-g2

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27541, BQ27510

Hi All,

We are currently in the production phase. for the build we are looking into 30K production build.

The Assembly line of our product usually starts with the SMT or Surface Mount of the ICs followed my AOI and then the Manual Soldering of some components. The Fuel Gauge is mounted in our boards during the first step which is the SMT. At the end of the production line, we program all the ICs including the Fuel Gauge as it is already mounted in out boards.

Our team would like to program the Fuel Gauge prior to SMT in which it will just be a bare Fuel Gauge IC (condition is the same from the time it was purchased). This will lessen the lead time of the production as we could program the FG in parallel in multiple PCs prior to the build or upon receipt of the ICs.

These are my questions:

1. What are the equipment needed? Is there anything available in the market such as a Development kit wherein we could mount the Fuel Gauge by clipping it in (not soldering)?

2. Is there an equipment available that could program Fuel Gauge ICs in parallel?

3. Will the equipment still utilize the EV2300 and bwEVSW?

Thanks in advance,

Kat

  • Hi Kat,

I have heard of a couple of distributors in the USA who have offered a pre-programming service for some of our fuel gauges like bq27541 and bq27510.  I assume they procured some sockets that fit the IC and then used a microcontroller to program the .dffs file into the ICs.

You could theoretically develop your own board with a socket (or multiple sockets) and use a PC to do the same.
