TPS2543 USB On-the-Go(OTG) protocol

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2543

Hi everyone,

My customer is currently trying to implement USB OTG using the TPS2543 by adding a power distribution switch to the output of the IC. They are concerned that the negotiation for the charging may interfere with the gadget enumeration.

Looking at the TPS2543 datasheet and guides, the TPS2543 seems to only supports SDP, CDP, and DCP protocols. There doesn't seems to be any data on a possible work around to get USB OTG working using this device.

Does anybody have any insight on using the TPS2543 with USB OTG?
Secondly would there be any concerns with the charging negotiation and enumeration in this mode?

Thanks, Joey

  • TPS2543 can work with OTG systems when it is in SDP or CDP mode (data line switches are ON). In this state, enumeration can also occur. The majority of the OTG functionality comes from the system side, especially the USB Hub IC. The portable device must also be able to support OTG and this occurs independently of the charging IC.
