TPS62130 current limit

Hello

I bought a evaluation board TPS62130-505, the output voltage is 3.3 and the datasheet suggest the maximum output current is 3A, but when I program my dc electronic load to 3A, the output voltage was 3.3, but I want to know what is the current limit , I forced the evaluation board to deliver until 3.9A, when the electronic load did consume 4A, the output voltage did fall down quickly, then the limit is 3.9A, is recommend to do that?, what happen If the electronic load consumes more that 3A?

  • The current limit operation and level is explained in the D/S.  The current limit in this device turns the IC into a constant output current converter, so the output voltage drops if you decrease the load resistance further.

It is generally ok to operate the device in current limit but I am not sure why you would want to do that.  If you need more than the 3A it is rated for, there are other devices available.  The power quick search at power.ti.com can find them for you.
