TPS62050 - Connect PGND to GND?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62050

Hello,

I have a question about TPS62050 (and others similar). It has two ground pins, PGND and GND; their name (and the data sheet) suggests they are power ground and signal ground. On the EVM schematics they seem to be separate, while on the data sheet the same ground symbol is used for both of them, so I am getting a little confused: should I connect them together? Why? What should I consider about this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Stefano

  • These two pins must be connected together somewhere on the PWB.  The details of how this connection affects performance requires a detailed understanding of power supplies and their voltage and current waveforms as well as understanding how currents through a PWB generate unwanted voltages (noise).   I suggest you make your PWB match the TPS62050 EVM.  These designs have been built and tested and you can review their performance to make sure it works in your system.
