Hi All,

Please let me ask about watchdog timer.

Our customer has evaluated bq24161B and then they confirmed that bq24161B was in default mode after charge done. In their system, the host controller monitor STAT pin output and the host will be suspended after it detect charge done by STAT pin output. We understand that the watchdog timer flow (Fig.24 in Pg.20 of DS) will be finished after the battery is fully charged, but it seems the flow was not finished and so bq24161B was entered default mode.

If the watchdog signal is still being sent by the host, then the IC will remain in host mode (and therefore NOT reset any registers to default values) regardless of charging or charge done.

Hi Jeff,

Do you mean that the IC enter default mode if the watchdog signal is not set by host after charge done? Is it the correct operation of bq24161B?

Hi Jeff,

Let me double-check to let me understand correctly.

I understood that the watchdog timer should be stop when ITERM is detected as shown in Fig.24. But the correct understanding is the watchdog timer continue to operate after detecting ITERM, right? So the customer need to use bq24160A which is disabled watchdog timer if they want to halt communication between host and charger after charge done.

The watchdog timer is independent of charge done.
