TPS61232 application question?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61232, TPS61230EVM-089

Dear Sir

From TPS61230EVM-089(My customer is select TPS61232 but i think these 2 parts are the same), Here add C1 150uF capacitor, in actually application, may we need  add C1?

Form EVB, the output capacitor is 22uF*3, if i just use 22uF *2, is this just impact output ripple?

  • Hi Bogey,

Actually C1 is necessary. I suggest using C1 in your application (the value of 150uF can be changed). You can refer to the datasheet Page 14 for the input cap reference.

Besides, regarding ouput cap selection, please refer to the tab.4 in the datasheet.

As you said, reducing output cap wil impact the output ripple, it will also have some influence on the satbility. But as you choose the output cap referring datasheet, I think it's OK for stability.

  • hi Bogey,

can u tell us what the power supply is? If it's powered by battery, as we all know, battery is equvalient to a big cap, so C1 is no more needed (of course, if the trace between the power supply and IC is very long, C1 is still needed).C1 here is to avoid severe power drop when load changes.Thanks.

for the output cap, change from 66uF to 44uF, it seems has no obvious impact on loop stability from bench test.thanks.
