BQ34Z100 Single Cell gauge not detecting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, BQ34Z100EVM

Good Day,

We recently bought the BQ34Z100EVM (Evaluation Module) and the EV2300. Our application involves gauging a 4x Series (4S) LiFePO4 battery pack. Our first test was on a single cell LiFePO4 and so far so good. We then ordered BQ34Z100 samples and designed our own little fuel gauge with the 4x LED option and I2C using the EV2300.

Problem: When starting BQ EVSW Software it says: "The detected device not compatible with this application! Proceed at your own risk."

My circuit is identical to the EVM for the Single Cell layout.

Please help?

  • Good Day,

No need to attend to this question. The issue was resolved. The I2C comms line was not proper.

However, I need help setting up our LiFePO4 batteries.

We chose LED Configuration = 0A (4 LED mode).

    I calibrated the pack.

I changed the 4200 mV default values to 3300 mV. The defualt settings are for Li-Ion. And although I chose the battery chemistry to LiFePO4/ Carbon 10000 mAh, updated it, it still shows the Li-Ion parameters.

Is there a detailed tutorial for setting up LiFePO4 (3.3V) cells?

    Thank you.

  • Solomon,

    Thank you for the feedback.

  • Good Day Tom,

We have 10Ah LiFePO4 cells (3.3V). Using the BQ EVSW, the fuel gauge is at 33%, although we know the cell is fully charged. Where do I find more information on changing the Configuration Settings for our Cell? Do you have an example file I can load to test, please? I really appreciate your assistance.

    Thank you,

    Solomon Smit

  • This is probably a ChemID match problem or a parameter set configuration problem. How did you match the ChemID to your cells? If you would like to check the match, then you can send some log data to me and I will check it. (see attached fiel for more info) If you can send a log file showing the problem and extract a senc file, then I can check you setup and make a better recommendation.
