BQ24295 PCB Area Miniaturization

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24295

Hi All,

I am following the User Guide for the BQ24295 and was wondering if anyone has recommendations on inductors that aren't huge? The recommended inductor is really large and we are developing small consumer electronic products where PCB area is precious commodity (probably similar to many others on here).

Thank You,

George

  • George,

You can possibly move down to a smaller inductor package such as the IHLP1616BZ, but you will need to consider both the saturation current as well as an increased DCR will reduce your efficiency and have a thermal impact.

What is your expected charge current, and are you using OTG mode?

You can also save some board space by moving some components from 0603 to 0402 and 0805 to 0603, but be mindful of any derating and other negative effects of changing to smaller packages.

If you have additional concerns,  I'm happy to provide feedback on your schematic and layout if you'd like.  Let me know and we can discuss this further offline.

    Best Regards,

    Rachel
