BQ34z100

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, BQEVSW, BQ34Z100EVM

Hello

I'm a student of an university in austria and at the time I'm working on a diploma project with 4 other students. We're developing a mobile power station for notebooks. We use lithium ionen akkumulators. We want to use the BQ34z100 Fuel Gauge for a SOC indicator.

Is a EVM2300 absolute neserssary to program the bq34z100? We  have a Mikrocontroller with a I²C Interface. Can we initialize the IC with the Mikrocontroller?

Thanks for your Help

Tobias

  • Tobias,

You can program the device using a uC over the I2C interface, but we recommend using the EV2300 and the TI bqEVSW to learn how to use the device and perform the initial setup. The GUI provides a lot of tools to you and I think that you will get to the finish line faster.

  • Hi Tom,

Thank you for your quick answer. Can students buy the EV2300 cheaper? Because my budget is very smal. I have already experience in serial data comunications with the STM32F407 uC. My problem is not the communication, but the large amount of commandos of the bq34z100. Exists anywere a document, which explains the order to program the IC at the first time?

I use not the bq34z100evm. I design a own circuit board.

    Thanks for your Help!

  • Tobias,

We have a Going to Production With the bq34z1xx document available for download from the product website and it provides some guidance with programming the device. Please provide an email address and we can probably work something out on the EV2300.

  • Thank you for your efforts. I have provide my email address in my profil.

    Thank You Tom!
