BQ24232 UVLO for battery

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63050

Regarding the BQ24232 lithium charging circuit.

When discharging from a lithium cell, does the device have a output cutoff switch for the battery below a minimum level.

i.e Does it protect the battery with a UVLO method.

If so what voltage is this?

Thanks.

Sorry originally posted on wrong thread.

  • This device doesn't have BAT UVLO spec. However, as it is a PMOS connected between OUT and BAT, the discharging will eventually stop when the battery voltage drops and there's no head room for the PMOS to turn on.

  • Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

This voltage is likely to be lower than the battery flat point (no energy left to keep the battery in good condition).

What Im trying to determine is do I need to monitor the battery voltage and somehow switch off taking current from this battery.

Maybe a 3V0 zenna diode controlling the say the enable of a TPS63050. not sure if this will still take to much leakage current if I do that.

I'm a bit concerned that this circuit will just keep taking energy out of the battery past the 3V0 cut off point.

At 2V7 hopefully if fitted on the battery protection will kick in to protect the battery.

I'm just trying to work out a way of stopping it taking current from the cell before it gets to 3V0 to give it some head room to keep the battery in good condition.

    Thanks
