bq34z100 High Pulse Current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100

I am using the bq34z100 for an application which has very occasional, extremely high, but short duration, pulse current loads on top of a more constant current profile.  Would you be able to advise me which bq34z100 gas gauge settings would be most appropriate for an application like this.

  • Lois,

We usually recommend setting the Load Select to 0 for pulsed load or transient load applications. Batteries typically absorb short duration pulses and they probably will not have a big affect on the accuracy of the gauging, unless they occur very frequently.

  • Thank you Thomas.  I am also a little concerned as to how the voltage drop during the pulse will affect the gauge, in particular, would any delta V parameters, need to be increased? We are seeing up to 1.5V worst case on a single cell (although the battery is a pack so might not be quite as bad as this).
