BQ25505 battery questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25505

Hello,

I am working with the BQ25505 and have a few brief questions.

Could I technically connect a voltage source instead of a primary battery to pin VBAT_PRI? Are there any drawbacks to doing so?

From looking at the "typical application schematic" on the 3rd page of the the data sheet: If both the secondary and primary battery have energy to supply to the load, which one wins?

  1. If the Primary battery wins (which is implied by nomenclature), why is this the case? Wouldn’t you want the rechargeable secondary to win?  Or is this just an example and

Thank you so much for your help.

Regards,

Russell

  • You can connect a voltage source to VBAT_PRI.  The MUX I controlled by the VBAT_OK threshold settings.  If VSTOR=VBAT is above the VBAT_OK threshold then MUX connects that pin to the load.  If not, then VBAT_PRI is connected to the load.
